Gardening Tips/FAQ's
MARCH
When
do I prune my Azaleas? After
the Azaleas have bloomed but before new blooms have been
set on the plant (typically before mid June).
Do
I have to prune my ornamental grasses?
No,
but for aesthetic purposes you may wish to do so. Without
pruning your plant will send up new growth with the past
season’s growth still present and the grasses will look
unsightly.
What
can I plant for spring color besides Azaleas?
There
are lots of choices including: Viburnum, Weigela, Quince,
Japanese Kerria, Abelia, Knckout Roses, Gardenia and many,
many more. You could also plant any number of wildflowers
for spring color.
When
should I pull up my pansies? Definitely
wait until AFTER Easter and after our last frosts have
passed before pulling up pansies to make room for summer
annuals.
What
can I plant for Fragrance? Gardenias,
Tea Olive, Roses, Mohawk Viburnum, Sweet-Bobby, Dianthus,
Hyacinths, plus any number of herbs.
Lawn Care Tips
Pre-emergent crabgrass control and
fertilizer application must be made no later than March
30th for best results.
Broad-leaf
weed control. Now
is the time to spot treat broad-leaf weeds as they appear
in the turf. Spot spraying is more cost-effective,
efficient, and more environmentally friendly than broadcast
application because herbicide is applied only where needed.
